The movie is co-directed by Nana live-action director Kentaro Otani and Tiger & Bunny anime director Keiichi Satou.

The movie is set in the year 2020, more than 130 years after the original manga’s setting. Shiori, female heir to the Phantom Corporation is forced to wear male clothes since only males can lead the Phantomhive family. Like her predecessor Ciel, she also becomes Sebastian’s master and has a seal in her right eye as a symbol of her contract with Sebastian. Also like Ciel, Sebastian is to protect her at all costs in exchange for letting him feed on her soul.

The movie is based on Yana Toboso’s Kuroshitsuji manga which is serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly GFantasy magazine. The manga inspired an anime adaptation in 2008 which became a run-away hit and spawned a second season in 2010. The series even had a musical! The movie will be released to Japanese movie theaters early next year, January 18, 2014.
