With the summer heat already in full blast, Japanese entertainment website Recochoku has asked its readers which Summer 2014 anime is the one that they think is the best. With strong contenders like Sword Art Online, Tokyo Ghoul, and Akame Ga Kill!, the season is certainly full of great titles for the voters to choose from.
With 578 voters, 64.8% of whom are women while only 35.2% are men, here are the results for Recochoku’s Top 10 Summer 2014 anime:

9) Akame Ga Kill!
8) Aldnoah.Zero
7) Terror in Resonance
6) Tokyo Ghoul
5) Ao Haru Ride
4) Black Butler: Book of Circus
3) Monthly Shoujo Nozaki-kun
2) Sword Art Online II
1) Free! Eternal Summer
Summer 2014 is considered as the “Season of Fujoshis”, and with 64.8% of voters being female, the #1 ranked anime is not very surprising as Free! Eternal Summer manages to hold off Sword Art Online II which has so far dominated the season and has constantly been at the top of most Summer 2014 rankings.
Comedy anime Monthly Shoujo Nozaki-kun meanwhile has proven to be one of this season’s most unlikely contenders with its mix of slapstick humor and writing shoujo mangas in the most comedic way possible. The 64.8% female voter turn out also helped Black Butler who took the #4 spot while #5 belonged to shoujo anime series Ao Haru Ride, which is also a female fan favorite.
Constant favorites Tokyo Ghoul, Ald.Noah Zero, and Akame Ga Kill!, which are constantly in the Top 5 for most rankings have gotten lower rankings than expected.
