Ghibli, Disney, Doraemon, and Gundam, four animation titans are jostling for position to win this year’s Anime of the Year, and all four are very deserving. Frozen has not only won the Academy Award for Best Animation, but it has also become the highest grossing animated movie in Japan last year. Princess Kaguya has gotten much critical acclaim while Stand By Me Doraemon has become a much loved adaptation to the classic franchise. Gundam UC Ep. 7 meanwhile has also gotten much accolades from fans worldwide.

The nominees had to be shown in Japanese theaters or aired in Japanese TV from the period of November 1, 2013 until October 31, 2014. The titles will all be screened as the awards festival is held from March 19 – 23, 2015 at the Toho Cinemas in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Last year, Attack on Titan won the TV award while Ghibli’s the Wind Rises won the Movie Award.
