For the most part, parents don’t seem to understand anime or think such things are childish, however, sometimes, there are shows where you think they would actually enjoy and may change their opinions on animation.
For this week’s Charapedia poll, the Japanese character database has asked anime fans which titles do they want to recommend for their parents to watch. With 10,000 votes, 51.0% of whom are male while 48.1% are female, here are the Top 20 (others were also included in the poll but only the Top 20 were shown):

With the exception of Gintama, fans seem to be recommending tearjerkers for their parents to watch, with tissue/ ninjas cutting onions magnet, AnoHana, getting the top spot. The anime has certainly tugged at the hearts of many and most likely will be enjoyed by many parents
Gintama on the other hand, which would be the thorn among the roses in the Top 5, also has its share of tear jerkering episodes, however, the anime is mainly associated with laugh out loud humor, which would brighten up any day, and it is certainly something your parents would like as well.
