Madoka Magica x Monogatari: Madogatari exhibition opens as Shaft celebrates 40th anniversary

Legendary Japanese animation studio, Shaft, is celebrating 40 years of unforgettable anime, from Madoka Magica to Monogatari, from Negima?! to Nisekoi, and everything in between. Now, the studio responsible for a lot of head tilting has finally opened its Madogatari exhibition as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations.

The exhibition contained art exhibits featuring not only Madoka Magica and the Monogatari series, two of the studio’s most popular titles, but also other works like Eto Rangers, Negima, and Mekaku City Actors. Memorabilia, scripts, and other production materials were also on display.

15,000 visitors attended the event, and long lines were present on all days, which were held from November 27 until December 2, 2015. Tickets for the event were reportedly sold out.

However, the biggest news from the event is the new Madoka Magica concept movie, which a new animated project could be built around. The concept movie presents Madoka as a ballet dancer, with more active roles for the characters of Nagisa and Hitomi. The exact same team behind the Madoka Magica anime, as well as the movies, the Magica Quartet, are the ones behind this new concept movie. Magica Quartet is comprised of four of the biggest names in the anime industry, Director Akiyuki Shinbo (Monogatari), writer Gen Urobuchi (Fate/ Zero, Aldnoah. Zero), character designer Ume Aoki (Hidamari Sketch), and animation studio Shaft (Nisekoi, Monogatari).
