Last month, the July 2016 edition of Newtype Magazine has showed that Macross Delta can indeed hang with the big boys. The mecha/ idol series dominated the rankings, however, one month later, they were dethroned by none other than Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress.
Male Rankings:

4. Kirito (Sword Art Online)
5. Sakamoto (Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto)
6. Lelouch Lamperouge (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion)
7. Gintoki Sakata (Gintama)
8. Biba Amatori (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)
9. Archer (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works )
10. Kira Yamato (Gundam SEED)
Female Rankings:
1. Mumei (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)
2. Saber (Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works )
3. Freyja Wion (Macross Delta)
4. Hitagi Senjougahara (Monogatari series)
5. Asuna (Sword Art Online)
6. Kyouka Izumi (Bungou Stray Dogs)
7. Kaname Buccaneer (Macross Delta)
8. Rem (Re:Zero)
9. Tsubasa Hanekawa (Monogatari series)

While Macross Delta has remained strong, they have really been dethroned by the Kabaneris in this one. however, the big news is at #10 of the male rankings. Yes folks, he has finally risen! Kira Yamato is Back! We called it, we have said that he will be back, and yes, he finally did!
Meanwhile, Re:Zero and Bungou Stray Dogs surprisingly did not fare well for this edition of the Newtype Rankings, while old favorites like SAO, monogatari, and Fate, all fared very well.
And did we mention that KIRA YAMATO IS BACK?!
