We are not surprised with #1! Anime fans rank the Top 20 Anime Characters of 2016!

It’s the day before Christmas, and that means that the year is almost over! 2016 has been wrought with plenty of mishaps, but it also brought plenty of great anime, as well as some unforgettable characters! For this week’s poll, Charapedia has asked 10,000 anime fans (42.1% male, 57.9% female) to vote for which anime character is the most memorable one for 2016! A total of 58 characters were included in the poll, but only the Top 20 were announced, and they are:

20 – Hifumi Takimoto (New Game!)

19 – Yuri Plisetsky (Yuri on Ice)

18 – Shinsuke Takasugi (Gintama)

17 – Josuke Higashikata (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable)

16 – Kashuu Kiyomitsu (Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru)

15 – Takashi Natsume (Natsume’s Book of Friends)

14 – Chitose Karasume (Gi(a)rlish Number)

13 – Sakunosuke Oda (Bungou Stray Dogs)

12 – Yuri Katsuki (Yuri on Ice)

11 – Saiki Kusou (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)

10 – Mikazuki Augus (Mobile Suit Gundam – Iron Blooded Orphans)

9 – Emilia (Re:Zero)

8 – Kei Tsukishima (Haikyuu!!)

7 – Gintoki Sakata (Gintama)

6 – Aoba Suzukaze (New Game!)

5 – Chuuya Nakahara (Bungou Stray Dogs)

4 – Victor Nikiforov (Yuri on Ice)

3 – Micheal Bay Megumin (KonoSuba)

2 – Osamu Dazai (Bungou Stray Dogs)

1 – Rem (Re:Zero)

Majority of the voters in the poll are female, and because of that, Bungou Stray Dogs and Yuri on Ice did very well, with each series having three entries in the Top 20, however, 2016 really is the year of the blue demon maid, as Rem manages to take the top spot in convincing fashion, even beating out her love rival, Emilia, who only got 9th place… but then again, we all know who Subaru will still choose.

2016 featured plenty of series that are popular with women, and this poll shows exactly that, as Gintama, Haikyuu!!, Touken Ranbu, and Natsume’s Book of Friends also did well in the rankings. Shows that are popular among males also did well, as New Game and KonoSuba were also represented.
