Cloud and Sephiroth highlight new Final Fantasy VII remake visual

Let’s face it, people are really hyped for the Final Fantasy VII remake. The game we’ve played back as kids is now getting remade and given a newer feel. And during the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Opening Ceremony, they revealed a new key visual featuring Cloud and Sephiroth.

Square Enix didn’t reveal any more details about the game, but from what we’ve seen so far, the game really looks beautiful… just remember not to level up Aerith that much. The game will be released for the PS4, and no release date has been made. They will be releasing the game by episode.

Studio Ghibli co-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki finally react to Makoto Shinkai"s your name.

Makoto Shinkai’s your name. is now officially the highest grossing Japanese animated film of all time in terms of global box office sales. The multi-award-winning anime movie may have gotten the Oscar snub, but the film did manage to surpass Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning classic, Spirited Away.

The film has received both praise and criticism from critics all over the world, but what do the people from Studio Ghibli think of the film? Studio Ghibli co-founder and former producer Toshio Suzuki recently gave an interview with Weekly Bunshun magazine, and he finally gave his thoughts, along with the thoughts of the man Makoto Shinkai has been compared to, Hayao Miyazaki, about your name.

The producer first talked about the “a girl losing her way in a different world” trope and said, “I had a prediction that someone would make that sometime.” He also revealed that Miyazaki agreed with him, and said that the Oscar-winning director told him “Yeah, that’s right. I won’t do it, but [the film] goes just like I thought.”

He also talked about Shinkai himself, and said that  “The term ‘another world’ is used successfully time and again, and I had a hunch that Makoto Shinkai is a fan of Hayao Miyazaki.” The Ghibli co-founder also praised your name. a lot, saying  “It’s made so that all the characters in the drama, lines, and music make the background stand out.” He also added “The high fall sky that seems like it could be breathed in was especially impressive”.

There you have it folks, apparently, the people at Ghibli thought your name. was great… unlike a few Japanese critics out there.

Pokemon now has 802 species, from Gen-1 to Gen-7. Now, die-hard Pokemon fans can really name them all without any problems, but how many can you name in just 20 seconds? Pokemon producer Junichi Masuda takes up that challenge and really tries to name as many as he can in just 20 seconds:

Seems like he struggled a bit near the end, but he did manage to name 30! That’s more than one per second. As expected of Mr. Masuda… although all he named were Gen-1 Pokemon. But then again, they’re the easiest to remember and the best to use in a time challenge such as this one.

Now, how many can you name in just 20 seconds? I tried myself and got 21, so how will you do?

What is the worst live-action manga movie? Fans rank the worst live-action films based on manga

Live-action movie adaptations are either a hit or a miss. Sometimes, we have those movies like Dragon Ball Super that makes us want to forget about them, and sometimes we get an awesome adaptations of manga like Edge of Tomorrow starring Tom Cruise (Based on All You Need is Kill).

Japanese ranking website, Goo, recently took a look at the worst live-action movie adaptations of manga. Let’s face it, not all live-action films can become Rurouni Kenshin. A total of 40 titles were included, and here are the Top 10:

10 – Wolf Girl and Black Prince

9 – Your Lie in April

8 – Gatchaman

7 – Devilman

6 – Space Battleship Yamato

5 – Terra Formars

4 – KochiKame

3 – Lupin III

2 – Black Butler

1 – Attack on Titan

Admit it, you expected Attack on Titan to win the #1 spot in this latest Goo poll, didn’t you. The film based on Hajime Isayama’s bestselling manga received so much hate from fans for deviating from the story, changing the race of  the characters, and of course, NOT INCLUDING LEVI! Oh, and many also complained about the bad acting and horrible story.

iDOLM@STER joke robot, Mujin Gattai Kisaragi, gets featured in Super Robot Wars

In an unexpected team-up, Super Robot Wars X-Ω will be featuring the iDOLM@STER! This is because the iOS and Android smartphone game will be featuring iM@S’s own flat-chested robot, Mujin Gattai Kisaragi!

The collaboration will feature both Mujin Gattai Kisaragi and the HaruKaizer, with both super robots being playable in the game.

Mujin Gattai Kisaragi started out as a funny segment during The iDOLM@STER anime’s episode 15, which pokes fun at the iDOLM@STER mecha anime, Xenoglossia, as well as Chihaya’s robotic voice, Azusa’s cowlick hair, and Haruka’s “Evil” side. It even got its own voice novel!

Mujin Gattai Kisaragi was originally a joke about Chihaya Kisaragi’s seemingly robotic voice while singing  “Ohayou! Asagohan” (and this resulted to Robo-Chihaya) and Sunrise’s iDOLM@STER Xenoglossia super robot anime which many fans did not like very much. It featured Chihaya as a (still flat-chested) robot ,which is piloted by Ami and Mami, taking on opponents led by a very evil Haruka. It also features Azuscythe with a seriously weaponized cowlick and boob rockets, and a robot Ritsuko. It was part of the anime’s 15th episode where it was shown as a “trailer” for an upcoming “765 Pro movie.”

[NEW ANIME] Macross Franchise to get new anime project in 2018 for 35th anniversary

We"re not surprised with #1! Fans rank the Top 25 mangaka who have too many hiatuses

We all need to take a break from work, school, or anything that we’re busy with. Sometimes, manga creators, or mangaka, also have to take breaks too, and these often result to hiatuses. Some of them would go on hiatuses for a various reasons. Some would take a break because of calamities like the Kumamoto earthquake, others because a relative is sick, while others for their own health, and others just to refresh their minds and go on vacation.

Japanese ranking website, Goo, recently asked manga readers which mangaka takes too many breaks. The results are now in, and we’re not really surprised who they ranked at #1 (because we can all see it coming).

25 – Others

24 – Makoto Yukimura (Vinland Saga)

23 – Yasuaki Kita (Kenka Shoubai)

22 – Hitoshi (Iwaaki Historie)

21 – Kei Toume (Yesterday o Utatte)

20/19 (tie) – Kouta Hirano (Drifters) and Minene Sakurano (Mamotte Shugogetten!)

18/17 (tie) – Barasui (Strawberry Marshmallow) and Norio Sakurai (Mitsudomoe)

16 – Yoshiki Takaya (Bio-Booster Armor Guyver)

15 – Rei Hiroe (Black Lagoon)

14 – Ume Aoki (Hidamari Sketch)

13 – Zekkyou (Tora Dora!)

12 – Masami Kurumada (Saint Seiya: Next Dimension – The Myth of Hades)

11 – Kiyohiko Azuma (Yotsuba&!)

10 – Kentarou Miura (Berserk)

9 – Takehiko Inoue (Vagabond)

8 – Mamoru Nagano (The Five Star Stories)

7 – Daisuke Ashihara (World Trigger)

6 – Kazushi Hagiwara (Bastard!!)

5 – Hisashi Eguchi (Stop! Hibari-kun)

4 – Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Neon Genesis Evangelion)

3 – Katsura Hoshino (D.Gray-man)

2 – Suzue Miuchi (Glass Mask)

1 – Yoshihiro Togashi (Hunter X Hunter)

Usually, we don’t feature the #1 ranked winners in the cover photos of our articles, but the result is so obvious that we just had to feature Hunter x Hunter. Togashi and his series won by a landslide, as the series took 1,845 votes in the poll, while the #2 ranked Glass Mask, another hiatus-ridden manga series, only took 302 votes. That’s how painfully obvious the #1 in the results are.

However, the poll did put in a few surprises, with Kentaro Miura and his Berserk only being ranked 10th, but then again, a lot of these titles have frustrated fans for so long now that a lot of them deserved their spots. Oh, and thank goodness Guts has finally gotten out of that boat after 10 years!

[NEW ANIME] Manga about a neat-freak, Cleanliness Boy! Aoyama-kun, gets a TV anime

When you play sports like football/soccer, you will get yourself dirty. But what if a player regarded as a genius is a neat freak who doesn’t want to get himself dirty? That’s the premise of Taku Sakamoto’s Cleanliness Boy! Aoyama-kun manga, and it’s getting itself a TV anime adaptation!

Guillermo del Toro talks about his role in Hideo Kojima"s Death Stranding PS4 game

After Konami cancelled his Silent Hills partnership with Hideo Kojima, renowned Hollywood director, Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy 2, Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth) is finally having his video game debut with his Japanese friend’s upcoming Death Stranding game. del Toro recently sat down with IGN for a phone interview, and he talked about his role in the game.

In the IGN interview, del Toro  “I’m involved as a character. Kojima-san called me and said, ‘I want you to be a character in the game,’ and I said, ‘Gladly.’ He’s discussed his ideas so I could understand the character, but other than that I’m not involved, creatively, at all.” The director then continued “This is entirely Kojima-san’s game. I think it’s gonna be a fantastic game, 100%. But this is him and his ideas. I’m just a puppet in his hands. My contribution is limited to being a cheerleader for his ideas and being scanned for long hours at a time. That’s about it.”

After that debacle with his former company, Konami, Kojima needs all the cheering he can get! But then again, del Toro is one very huge cheer leader!

In an interview, Kojima revealed that they are using Guerrilla Games’ new Decima Engine for the game, with Kojima saying that he and his team looked everywhere to find the “perfect tools” to create Death Stranding. He said “It has to be technology and people, they cannot be separate. From the first moment I met Guerrilla I had a good feeling about this.”

Death Stranding will be released for the PlayStation 4 PRO.

What is Shounen Jump"s next biggest manga? Fans choose in new Goo poll

Last year, some of Weekly Shounen Jump! magazine’s biggest anime titles finally concluded, including long-running titles like BLEACH and KochiKame. Other popular titles like Naruto, Nisekoi, Sket Dance, Kuroko’s Basketball, and Assassination Classroom are also over. Even with Gintama and One Piece still going strong, many fans are still wondering which manga carries the magazine’s torch, which was carried by the likes of Dragon ball, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Yu Yu Hakusho.

Japanese rankings website, Goo, recently asked 3,110 manga readers on which currently running Shounen Jump! series is the magazine’s “Next Poster Manga”. Here are the Top 19:

19 – Demon’s Plan

18 – Amalgam of Distortion

17 – Seishun Heiki Number

16 – Ole Golazo

15 – Samon-kun wa Summoner

14 – Straighten Up! Welcome to Shika High’s Competitive Dance Club

13 – The Promised Neverland

12 – Yuragi-sou no Yuuna-san

11 – Kimetsu no Yaiba

10 – Hinomaru Zumou

9 – Isobe Isobee Monogatari ~Ukiyo wa Tsurai yo~

8 – Boruto: Naruto Next Generations

7 – Black Clover

6 – Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma

5 – World Trigger

4 – The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

3 – My Hero Academia

2 – Hunter X Hunter

1 – Haikyuu!!

While battle manga like Naruto and Dragon Ball have been the mainstays for Shounen Jump! through the decades, fans have voted a sports manga, Haikyuu!!, as the manga that they think is the magazine’s new poster manga. The sports anime defeated traditional shounen battle manga titles like My Hero Academia and World Trigger, which both made it to the Top 5.

Curiously, the hiatus-ridden Hunter x Hunter made it to #2 despite being in hiatus for a long time now. This just proves how popular the series is, despite going on hiatus often, and for long periods of time.

Ghibli"s Red Turtle nominated for Oscar, your name. and Miss Hokusai snubbed

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences finally announced their nominees to win what is considered by many as the richest prize in all of film, an Oscar. These announcements by the Academy included Best Animated Feature Film, but despite being favored by many fans, a certain film by Makoto Shinkai seems to be missing.

The Nominees are the Japanese-inspired Kubo and the Two String, Disney’s Moana, My Life as a Zucchini, Studio Ghibli’s The Red Turtle, and Zootopia.

Among the Japanese anime films who submitted their entry to be nominated, Makoto Shinkai’s your name., as well as Miss Hokusai, didn’t get the nomination. So far, only Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away is the only Japanese animated film to win an Oscar.

The winners will be announced at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 26. As for Makoto Shinkai himself, he must be a bit relieved as winning an Oscar (or even getting nominated for one) would only strengthen the comparisons with Hayao Miyazaki… which he really hates.
